Power in the unions
Four of the UK's most radical trade unions are negotiating a pact to work more closely together on campaigning and solidarity work.
The the Civil and Public Serrvices union, Fire Birdges Union, National Union of Journalists, and Rail Maritime and Transport union see parliamentary lobbying as one of the areas where they can unify their efforts.
None of the four is affilaited to any political party.
The union's leaders - Mark Sewotka, Matt Wrack, Jeremy Dear, and Bob Crow - were among the group dubbed "the awkward squad" when they were first elected.
An announcment is expected in Manchester in September at the time of the Labour Party conference.
Is this the start of the realignment?

Sorry for this, but I can't seem to find your e-mail address.
I have changed the URL of The Exile. It is now: http://www.the-exile.info
Please can you update the link on your sidebar?
Comrade,
I'd welcome more detail on your announcement rather than having to wait until September.
I often work with NUJ reps and it'd be good to raise this issue with them.
I'd be happy to raise this on my own blog: ianmanborde.blogspot.com if you've more information I can raise.
Cheers
Ian
Will this be a part of the Convention Of The Left|?
Susan
I understand the plan is to announce in Manchester to coincide with both the Convention of the Left and the Labour Party conference.
Ian
You know what I know.
The answer: Sadly No.
