Pete Green - sort of a review
Pete Green and I used to work together at an education publishers in Birmingham.
At the time he was the front man in a decent indie group called The Regulars who churned out plaintive but catchy pop songs.
When that went pear-shaped Pete moved to Sheffield and started doing solo shows.
Earlier this week I caught his act for the first time at the Castle on Oldham Street, Manchester city centre.
He’s invented his own genre. Accoustic slacker. Clever catchy songs about quitting your job and taking the company with you; refusing to have a myspace page; vengeful anti-Thatcher time travel; and supporting Grimsby Town.
I loved it.
But don’t trust me – check out the free downloads on his website here.
The other bands on the bill were the 10p Mixes and MJ Hibbert. I enjoyed them too.
And to cap a great evening the loud mouth at the back spoiling it for everyone else was wearing a United shirt.
